Brief History about CRUTECH new VC

Professor Anthony Assam Owan Enoh certainly had his sights set on academic career very early in his life. In the days when it was a great honour to be called a tutor, he joined the staff of Community Secondary School, Akparabong in Ikon Local Government Area of Cross River State as a tutor in 1978. But he began his quest for higher academic laurels as a Youth Corp member when he was posted for his primary assignment to the Federal College of Education, Gombe, Gombe State in the 1982/83 Service Year. He was placed on the permanent establishment of that institution after his service year there till 1991.

In 1991, the budding academic relocated to his alma mater, the University of Jos, where he set out on an illustrious academic career. And why not? It was this institution that adjudged him the Best Graduating M. Ed. Student in the Class of 1985. As a teacher in that university he was recognized by the Faculty of Education for outstanding performance based on the 1999 staff appraisal. In eight short years, Anthony Assam Owan Enoh rose from Assitant Lecturer to the rank of Reader.


In 2002, when Cross River University of Technology was born, he joined the vanguard of experts in education who started off the Faculty of Education. In another three years, precisely in October 2005, Owan Enoh, as he is simply known among his peers, claimed the ultimate prize of an academic, thus becoming the first on CRUTECH’s academic staff roll to be promoted to the rank of full professor.

No wonder, then, that his academic progress has been matched by numerous academic responsibilities. At various times in the University of Jos, he was the secretary of the Departmental Seminar Committee; member, Departmental Editorial Committee; coordinator; Philosophy of Education Unit, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Education; managing editor, Jos Journal of Education; Editor, Journal of Educational Studies; General Coordinator of Doctoral Seminars for PhD candidates in the Faculty of Education, and Chief coordinator, the D.Ed. Sandwich Programme of the Institute of Education.

Much further afield, he has served as editorial consultant, Kontagora Journal of Education, a journal of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, Niger State; editorial consultant, Okene Minimum Standards Instructional and Learning Materials Publication of the Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi State: editorial consultant, Pankshin Journal of Arts and Social Sciences Education, a publication of the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Federal College of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State; Editorial Consultant, Sokoto Educatoin Review, a publication of the Department of Education, Othman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, and editorial consultant, The Emirate, a multidisciplinary Journal of Arts, Science, Vocational and Educational Studies, College of Education, Waka-Biu, Borno State.

In academic, we are known by our academic fruits, otherwise called publications, Owan Enoh hs borne fruits aplenty. He has published 75 journal articles, 35 book chapters, edited 12 books, authored 8 textbooks, produced 37 conference papers, and delivered 10 keynote addresses and 5 lead papers across Nigeria’s academic landscape
